Drainage Frequently Asked Questions

At Greenstar, we provide a wide range of drainage services, including drain cleaning, clearing blockages, drain relining and repairs, and CCTV drain surveys.

We know that a blocked drain can not only be unpleasant but a huge inconvenience as well. Because drain problems can arise anytime, we offer a 24/7 emergency call out service.

All our blocked drain quotes are set at a fixed rate with no hidden extras.

We are able to tackle blockages of all kinds, including showers, sinks, and toilets, as well as drains and waste pipes. We can also provide CCTV drain surveys (to assess and diagnose drain issues), drain repairs (including drain relining), as well as a range of gutter clearing and cleaning services.

The warning signs of a blocked drain are an unpleasant odour (like sewage or rotten eggs) in your kitchen or bathroom, strange sounds (like a rattling or gurgling noise) coming from your pipes, and water taking longer than usual to drain.

Drain blockages usually start out as a sticky base layer of fat (for example, butter, lard and oils used in food preparation). Hair and other debris such as food waste then cling to the sticky fat, and the blockage begins to grow. Flushing things down the toilet that shouldn’t be flushed is another common cause of blocked drains. As a guide, you shouldn’t flush items like sanitary products, wet wipes or dental floss down your toilet.

A drain blockage will only continue to get worse if left untreated. Severe blockages can cause your drain to overflow and flood your home. To avoid unpleasant and expensive flooding, it’s important to tackle a blocked drain before it gets too serious.

It’s a good idea to install drain protectors to catch and prevent hair and food waste from being washed down the drain. You should never pour fat down your kitchen sink or flush items like sanitary products and wipes. Keep an eye on little ones, in case they try to flush small toys or other items – this is a surprisingly common occurrence!

A CCTV drain survey uses CCTV technology to assess your drainage system from the inside. There are many reasons you may need a drain survey, for example, if you are building an extension, experiencing surface flooding, or having recurring drain issues.

Our drain relining method involves installing a lining that bonds to the inside of a drain pipe, to restore and protect it with minimal need to dig up the surrounding area. This makes repairs far more simple, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective.

We provide plumbing, boiler, heating and drainage services across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

For all emergency drainage jobs, we always try our best to arrive within a 2 hour time frame. Find out more by calling 01202 355 344.

A CCTV drain survey may be valuable if you’re experiencing recurring issues with blockages, or you suspect you might have a bigger problem like a collapsed or broken pipe. A drain survey offers an efficient and minimally invasive way to diagnose larger issues.

It’s a good idea to find out as much as possible about any property you intend to buy. If you’ve been made aware that the property has experienced drainage issues in the past, a CCTV survey may be worthwhile. This will make you aware of any serious issues and give you an idea of how much it will cost to fix.

How long the job takes is entirely dependent on the size and nature of the blockage. We will always work efficiently to diagnose the issue and strive to resolve it as quickly as possible.
